College Counseling 12
College Counseling 12
Course Overview: College Counseling 12 is designed to assist and guide seniors through the post-secondary/college application process. This includes university and college applications, scholarship searches and applications, financial aid applications, and the writing of personal statements. This course is structured as a workshop with some lecture type of lessons.
The purpose of the course is to build in time into the school day to complete college and university applications for every student. This is the sacred space for Seniors to work on all aspects of their applications and post-secondary planning. This is also the primary time for students to seek guidance and advice from a college counselor and other guest speakers.
Post-secondary options are many and varied. While some students plan to apply and enroll in a four-year university, others may not. Some students may decide to go on to a 2-year college before going to a 4-year college, while others may decide to enter the workforce. All students enrolled in this class must respect the post-secondary decisions of their peers. Students are expected to make an effort to support each other through this process.
The goals of CC12 are:
•Formulate a post-secondary plan with your college counselor and your advisor.
•Complete Graduation progress and CSU UC eligibility checks w/ your advisor.
•Complete and submit applications for a 4-year degree-seeking program, a 2-year degree-seeking program, or professional training program, including personal statements.
•Be prepared to apply for financial aid, including but not limited to Federal Financial Aid through FAFSA, University/institution Scholarships, and independent scholarships
