Policies

Attendance:
It is a school policy that
unexcused tardies and absences will affect your grade. A tardy may result
in your missing part of a quiz or major instruction. Use common sense—you
need to be in class to do well!
- No make up work for unexcused
absences
- Make up work for unexcused
tardiness counts for half credit.
- If you are absent, it is
your responsibility to find out and make up the missing work.Check the
Gateway High School Web Site or the class binder for necessary assignments.
- If you cut class or do not
get your absences cleared, you will get a zero in process of learning
for the day and no credit for work due or assigned that day.
- If you miss more than 15
minutes of class, your participation grade will drop.
- ALL INQUIRIES MUST BE MADE
ON MONDAYS AFTER SCHOOL IN ROOM 211 . I will not answer any question
before or during class.
- Thursdays are for Tutoring
Homework and
assignments:
are given on a regular basis
and at least a week in advance. Also, they usually are posted on the Gateway
Website. Each assignment is worth 10 points (Process of Learning)
and is due in the Homework Basket at the beginning of class. Some assignments
also receive a grade for Mastery of Language (will vary in points
depending on how much material is being covered).
- The homework should be complete
and turned in on time.
- You will receive half credit
for work turned in after all assignments have been collected.
- You have until the following
Monday to turn in late assignments for half-credit (Process)
- ONLY TWO (2) late assignments
for half credit (Process) are allowed per quarter.
- Written assignments must
be clear and neat with the date in Spanish
- If there is no class on
a Monday the work is due on the following class day
- Written assignments must
be clear and neat with the date in Spanish (day/month/year)
- Online Interactive Assignments
are required.
Quizzes and
tests:
vary in points depending on
how much material is being covered. We will have tests and quizzes on
a regular basis in a variety of formats.
- Mini quizzes are given
as a warm up when class starts.
- Tests are assigned at least
a week in advance with plenty of time to prepare and are usually given
at the beginning of class.
- All make-up quizzes and
tests will be given on Mondays or Thursdays after school in room 211.
- Students with unexcused
tardies or absences will receive half credit
for quizzes and tests.
- For excused absences, you
have one week (1) to make up quizzes and tests for full credit (Mastery)
Class Participation:
BE ON TASK AND PARTICIPATE
!
Behavior and in class
work habits
ALL School rules apply to this course also. A mature and respectful attitude
is necessary along with a sense of humor. The specific in class rules
are
- Excessive talking or speaking
out of turn are disruptive to the Learning Process and will not be tolerated
during class time.
- Other non-Spanish assignments
that are done during class will be confiscated and will NOT be returned
to the student.
- Only snacks and water are
allowed in class. (reversible rights)
- Please help keep our classroom
clean.
Academic Honesty
- Students are expected to
do their own work (REMEMBER YOU LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES).
- Copying from another student
is very serious and will result in a ZERO on the assignment of both
students.
- Have another student do
your work will result in a referral.
- Do not use a translating
program. Please be aware that the teacher is familiar with the subject
matter that has been learned in class. Translation programs are unacceptable
because they do not represent the student’s knowledge of grammar
and vocabulary and they also tend to be quite inaccurate.
Bathroom/Other Breaks
- It is not advised to leave
the class during instruction therefore you should ask for permission.
- We have two class passes.
When you leave class on a bathroom break or for another reason, please
sign out one.
- If the passes are gone,
wait until the persons using them return.
- You are young adults, therefore
in my class you are treated like so. I expect you to be mindful and
use common sense. If you are out too often, you are really abusing the
system and not taking class seriously enough. I want people to be able
to use the bathroom when they really need to, but not to make a habit
of it.
Personal Choices
You must take responsibility and accept consequences for your own actions.
Choosing not to comply with these expectations of behavior will lower
the grade, as class participation, cooperation and being on task form
a significant part of the Process of Learning final grade. In the case
you choose not to comply, a disciplinary action such as a phone call home
and/or referral to our Assistant Principal will take place.
