Course Purpose:
Spanish 3H is an accelerated
intermediate/advanced course for students who have successfully completed
their Spanish 2 requirement with a grade of B or higher. Three years of
Spanish are required to graduate from Gateway. The Spanish 3H course is
designed to prepare students for the continuing AP Language course. Students
are expected to take the National AP Spanish Language Exam next year.
Course Objectives
The course encompasses four-language
skills: listening, speaking, reading comprehension and writing. Because
it emphasizes the use of Spanish for active communication, the class is
mostly conducted in the target language and by the end of this course
students are expected to:
- Work with partner, in-group
and independently.
- Understand the difference
between formal and informal spoken Spanish
- Understand a lecture in
Spanish
- Acquire extensive vocabulary
and the grasp of structure to allow the easy reading of newspaper and
magazine articles, short stories and poems.
- Write in-class 200 words
essays (45 minutes in preparation for the AP exam)
- Express ideas orally with
improved accuracy and fluency.
- Self correct and rewrite
each essay following a Correction Code (part of the final portfolio)
- Do a close reading of short
literary works including poems (Latin America / Spain
- Research and investigate
material for projects (Library, Internet)

Required Material:
The “carpeta” (binder) with 5 sections - Class work, Homework,
Handouts for reading comprehension and Listening Activities, Vocabulary,
Grammar and Tests and Quizzes - is a tool. Sp3H being a College Preparatory
course, students are taught to take notes when necessary and to organize
work.
Language Lab
Students are responsable for completing and turning in ALL the assigned AUDIO ACTIVITIES. (two grades : Process of Learning 5/5 + Mastery of Content)
